textual analysis

(Textual analysis of pain and gain)
Evidently in this it really does give of the ambience of masculism from the props on set to the interaction with the store owner; from this clip it does ultimately suggest that rock is the more dominate individual. For example from this wide angle shot the ideology of the hand shake suggest that rock is pulling the weaker shop owner around to show his dominance in the room.
Furthermore the three “henchmen” used their male representation to gain access to the guns but also subvert the attention away to the real reason why they need the guns in the first reasons is to kidnap Kershaw. In summery from the clip its evident the man in the red t-shirt is weaker and for him to show his “alpha male” he got “Anthony Mackie” too shot him with the Tasers.
Therefore this is a screening of masochism and from “fight club takes a beating: Masculinity, Masochism and the politics of disavowal” and the final scene in the gun shop is of the man being electrocuted; with my analysing its evident that masculinity can be seen through masochism (the tendency to derive sexual gratification from one's own pain or humiliation.)

Furthermore within this it evident that the dominate individuals are all using there dominance to get it their own; this is overall being programmed into the audience mind and its going to make them more persuaded that being masculine will make them gain more respect when they are being watched or when they go into a store for example like in this scene. Furthermore it also shows that if your not masculine you could be seen the weaker individuals; however i also believe that this film is slightly being over exaggerated because of the constant masculine shots being expressed in this clip.

finally the use camera work within the clip goes hand in hand with the case study because from the establishing shot showing "Dwayne Jonson" offering his hand out to the smaller who is not as big or intimidating like the 3 "thieves". which overall lead this charter/individual and suggested to be empowered and dominance in that particular cut. furthermore from the shot at 1:19 which shows a medium close up of "Mark Wahlberg" this could also be suggestion to his individual dominance of the group pointing out the plan; this then also has been edited to be seen

Within this textual analysis I will be focusing on the scene src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5EJkEwnHOIM" width="560">
where Dwayne Johnson is overall using the weights to become sane again because of the fact that he is intoxicated with cocaine; therefore with the camera angles of the shot taken in this short clip suggest his masculinity. With the use of diegetic music It makes the actor seem more superior and dominate and then gives of outlets the ambience of enigma for the audience and keeps them completely, engaged because of the use cocaine and when paired with the camera angles such as the switch in camera angles to cause a panic to the audience and with hand held shots also suggest panic; when combined with the “cocaine side effect” it gives make the audience fell like they are on cocaine as well because of the change in tone which is overall what they are trying to suggest he is going to experience the side effect that are mentioned till the voice went high toned. And finally on the other hand because of the fast pace editing it makes the audience feel paced which overall cause’s unease.

Furthermore, the setting also ties in with his masculinity but also with the actual location of this analysis; this is because the way everything has been set out its suggest filth and dirt which goes hand in hand with the idea concept of cocaine. on the other hand he is also topless which suggest his manly hood and by him doing this is make him look more intimidating and also more dominate  charter which ties in with the actual film; finally with the clever editing which also shows the saturation of masculinity in this 0:16 clip at the very beginning of the clip the Low angle shot of the camera looking up to the weights suggest how much the character can lift on the bench press which consequential is going to make the audience much more envious of wanting to achieve this look.
